Installation and Basic Usage

1. Introduction

Welcome to the BlitzTools Barcode AddIn for Excel 2007 manual. Please spend a few minutes to read these pages so to make to most of this software.

This AddIn for Excel 2007 creates all common linear and 2D area barcodes. It is very easy to use and requires no more than a few clicks to add one ore more standards compliant barcodes to your worksheet. Contrary to previous barcode solutions for Excel this add-in does not require barcode fonts, or programming, or the installation of security-compromising ActiveX controls.

2. Installation

After downloading and unzipping the ZIP archive of the trial or the full version, double-click setup.exe to start the installation.

Important: If you want to install the full version and had the trial version installed before, please uninstall the trial first via Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Then restart your PC.

The add-in requires Microsoft's .NET framework to run; on older PCs this might not be present. In this case the installer will download the missing components directly from the Microsoft website. On a broadband connection, this should take no longer than a minute or so.

3. First steps

Let's create a simple barcode to get you started!

• Launch Excel.

• In the ribbon, switch to the Insert tab. Locate the Barcode icon (it will be at the far right portion of the tab). A tooltip with some info comes up if you hover over the icon:

Click the icon to add a barcode to the active worksheet:

Note how a task pane named "Barcode Properties" came up as soon as the code was created. This pane lets you specify the properties of the currently selected barcode, like code type, encoded data or size. Per default the add-in creates a Code 128 symbol with the content of "123456".

Deselect the barcode by clicking somewhere in the sheet and the pane goes away. Select the code by single-clicking on it and the pane comes up again. Also note that you can move the code around by click-dragging it.

Changing the barcode is simple: In the properties pane click into the field Data to encode > Static and change the text. Hit the Apply button at the bottom of the pane to apply your changes to the barcode.

Congratulations, you have just created our first barcode in Excel!
