Barcodes for German PZNs ("Pharmazentralnummer")
An application of Code 39 with regulated content and layout. Encodes the seven digit Pharmazentralnummer with a prefixed hyphen. The text "PZN" is not encoded into the barcode, it's just put in front of the human readable text. Also, the barcode does not use a checksum.With the PZN any pharmaceutical product on the german market is uniquely identified. PZNs are maintained and issued by the Informationsstelle für Arzneispezialitäten GmbH (IFA).
